Today, we’re launching Goodnotes Lite (Goodnotes极速版), a dedicated note-taking app built from the ground up for users in Mainland China.
It's available from June 15 on the Apple App Store and select Android app stores.
Goodnotes Lite runs on localized cloud infrastructure, supports local payment options, and is operated by a dedicated China team. The decision to build a separate, purpose-built app reflects our commitment to stay close to local feedback and keep improving in ways that matter most to this community.
What Goodnotes Lite includes
Goodnotes Lite brings Chinese users the core handwriting note-taking experience expected from Goodnotes.
Available at launch:
- Notebooks (free, unlimited): Write by hand and insert elements.
- Whiteboard (free, unlimited): An infinite canvas for thinking freely and capturing ideas without limits.
- Cross-device sync (paid feature): Access notes across devices, powered by local cloud infrastructure.
Coming soon:
- Resource Center: Downloadable notebook templates, tapes, and stickers. Including free assets and member-exclusive designs.
- Folders: Keep notebooks and whiteboards organized.
- Shapes: Draw perfect lines, arrows, and shapes to structure diagrams and mind maps.
- Textbox: Type anywhere on the page to add typed notes alongside handwriting.
- Precision Eraser: Remove ink and highlights precisely.
- Images: Take photos and add pictures directly into notes.
- Add pages: Choose from more paper types and layouts when you add pages to your Notebook.
- Audio recording: Record while you take notes.
- Read-only mode (Android): Review notes without accidental edits.
- Favorites: Pin the Notebooks and Whiteboards you use most for quick access.
Where it’s available
Goodnotes Lite is available in Mainland China only, on:
- Apple App Store
- Android app stores (available at launch): Lenovo, OPPO, vivo, Samsung
- Android app stores (coming soon): Xiaomi, Tencent, 360, Baidu, Meizu
One brand, two separate products
Goodnotes Lite is part of the Goodnotes brand. It shares the Goodnotes brand identity and carries forward the same best-in-class handwriting experience the global app is known for.
That said, it's a separate product with its own accounts, pricing, services, and data. There's no data sync, replacement, or migration between the two apps as of the June launch.
What this means in practice:
- Goodnotes Lite is a dedicated note-taking app for users in Mainland China. It's not a global rollout and it's not available outside Mainland China.
- The global Goodnotes app continues exactly as it is. Nothing changes for users of the global Goodnotes app.
What's next
The June 15 launch is the beginning, not the end. We're treating this as a public beta, a chance to listen, iterate, and keep improving based on real feedback from users in Mainland China.
Goodnotes Lite (Goodnotes极速版) is available in Mainland China only. Goodnotes Lite accounts and data are separate from global Goodnotes accounts. The global Goodnotes app remains available as usual.
