The issue of mobility for the disabled is near and dear to my heart, so I wanted to run a special promotion in honor of disabled US veterans. From today until Saturday, May 21 (Armed Forces Day), an additional 20% of net profit will benefit Homes for Our Troops. This is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to building or adapting wheelchair-accessible homes for disabled veterans who were injured in combat. These vets are returning to homes that have multiple levels, showers that are nearly impossible to get into without assistance, and stairs at all entrances into the home. These things may not seem problematic to the average person, but to someone with a disability or special needs, they can pose insurmountable challenges. Often the spouses and other family members of disabled vets are responsible for their care, so an inaccessible home negatively affects the quality of life of these vets as well as their families.
Homes for Our Troops builds homes for eligible injured vets from all branches of the military, at no cost to them or their families. These homes are wheelchair accessible, and may have other adaptations depending on the needs of the person. If a vet is eligible for a grant to help adapt their home for their needs, Homes for Our Troops will provide additional funding to make sure that the recipient can have their home adapted for free. In the words of the organization, “It is our duty and our honor to assist severely injured Servicemen and Servicewomen and their immediate families by raising donations of money, building materials and professional labor and to coordinate the process of building a home that provides maximum freedom of movement and the ability to live more independently.”
Homes for Our Troops’ website has many videos and photos if you’d like to see examples of the work they’re doing for our vets. All of the stories are touching, though I think the stories of Marine Sgt. Joshua Bouchard and Marine SSgt. Jack Pierce help to illustrate the obstacles that these families face, and how helpful the homes built by Homes for Our Troops are:
If you’d like to learn more about Homes for Our Troops, you can read their FAQ page or contact them here. If you’d like to get involved, you can donate directly or volunteer your time. The gift of independence is priceless, and I’m really proud to support an organization that’s doing such great work for some of the people who need it most.
If you’re looking for that perfect last-minute gift for Mother’s Day, take a look at our Mother’s Day special. Mom will love receiving six of our Pink Lilies notes with envelopes, wrapped in kraft paper and tied up with pink baker’s twine with a matching gift tag.
The best part about this gift is that it will benefit the National Breast Cancer Foundation, an organization whose mission is to save lives through early detection and to provide mammograms for those in need. It will also benefit Liz Downey, the talented artist who created this design.
This year, send a beautiful gift to Mom that gives back.
To celebrate Valentine’s Day, we’re offering a special Valentine’s Day package. Choose six of either I Heart You or Pink Lilies card designs, and receive one pack of handmade gift tags with pink and red twine. At $17.99, this is a great deal. Free gift wrapping, too!
Happy Valentine’s Day to lovers everywhere!

Yesterday was our first Saturday in the craft section of the Healdsburg Farmers’ Market, and it was great. It’s a nice market, there are lots of crafts to peruse without becoming overwhelmed. It was nice to get feedback from people at the market, and customers really responded to the charitable part of Good Notes. Here are some photos of the Good Notes booth. Don’t worry if you missed us, we’ll be there next Saturday!

Good Notes will be selling note cards and other paper goods at the Healdsburg Arts & Crafts market this November. This is part of the Healdsburg Farmers Market, one of my favorite markets in the Bay Area. The summer season has featured some great vendors like Strong Arm Farm and Nana Mae Organics, so I’m pretty excited to be a part of the November arts & crafts season.
We’ll be featuring our note cards as single notes and in packages of ten, plus we’ll be debuting a special gift package of one of each design. I love these gift packs, they’re tied up in pretty baker’s twine and make a lovely present. They’re also a great way to sample all of our designs if you can’t seem to just choose one. Each pack will benefit all six charities, so it’s a great deal for everyone.
We will also have our brand new gift tags for sale (coming soon to our website). Made from the same paper as our envelopes but in a heavier weight, each gift tag is tied with our lovely twine through a silver eyelet. They’re a simple and elegant way to label a gift, and they look great with our notes. You can purchase the gift tags individually, or buy ten at a time for a better value. Can’t wait to put these up on the site!
The Healdsburg Farmers Market is on Saturdays from 9am to noon, at North and Vine St, one block west of downtown. You can also find the market on Yelp and Facebook. Come visit us in November!
Check it out: there are six beautiful new designs available for purchase on goodnotes.com. This is my first round of notes, and I love, love, love them. They’re printed on 100% post-consumer content recycled paper, using vegetable inks. The artists I’ve worked with are fantastic, and I think they’ve chosen some wonderful charities. I couldn’t be more excited to launch Good Notes’ first line, I hope you like them as much as I do!
